The National Medical Commission (NMC)’s Mentor-Mentee Program is a mandatory initiative under the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum. It pairs medical students with faculty mentors from the beginning of their MBBS course until their internship to provide guidance, emotional support, and academic monitoring. This structure aims to reduce student stress, prevent ragging, and foster professional development.
Key aspects of the program include:
Structure & Purpose: Mentors are assigned during the foundation course to bridge the gap between faculty and students, offering personal and professional guidance.
Duration: The mentorship continues throughout the entire MBBS journey and through the Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI).
Mentors maintain a confidential, comprehensive record of their mentees’

C) progress, which is reviewed annually.

What a mentor should do?
Form a WhatsApp group of his/her mentees
Organise periodic meetings
Meets mentees individuals personally occasionally in case of need
Discuss academics and overall well being, difficulties of mentees.
Refers suitable mentees to specialists, or counsellors or psychiatrists, and communicates with parents.
Report your activities to Dean office periodically
